Montserrat, that literally means ‘the jagged mountain’, is a symbol of Catalan identity and spirituality (more info at www.montserratvisita.com). Here we will search for a mixture of rocky ground, cliff, Mediterranean woodland and scrubland bird species, as well as the Iberian ibex (Capra pyrenaica). All year: Bonelli’s Eagle, Crag Martin, Black Wheatear, Thekla Lark, Blue Rock Thrush, Sardinian and Dartford Warblers, Short-toed treecreeper, Iberian Grey Shrike, Rock Sparrow, Serin and Rock Bunting.
Breeding season: Short-toed Eagle, Alpine Swift, Hoopoe, Tawny Pipit, Black-eared Wheatear, Melodious, Subalpine and Western Bonelli’s Warbler, Golden Oriole, Woodchat Shrike and Ortolan Bunting.
Winter: Alpine Accentor and Wallcreeper.
