The natural areas of the Llobregat Delta are placed in a coastal floodplain with a great variety of habitats: cultivated land, coastal pinewoods, marshes, lagoons, reedbeds, beaches with dune vegetation. As a result, more than 360 bird species have been observed in the reserves (more info at www.deltallobregat.cat). If this is your first visit to Barcelona, this is the best option: lots of species in a short period of time. Please note that protected areas are closed on Mondays. Outstanding birds
All year: Cattle and Little Egret, Marsh Harrier, Purple Swamphen, Audouin’s Gull, Crested Lark, Zitting Cisticola, Cetti’s and Sardinian Warblers, Short-toed Treecreeper, Penduline Tit and Serin.
Breeding season: Little Bittern, Squacco Heron, Purple Heron, Black-winged Stilt, Collared Pratincole, Kentish Plover, Scops Owl, Hoopoe, Great Reed and Western Bonelli’s Warblers.
Passage: Gull-billed Tern , Glossy Ibis, Spoonbill, Flamingo, Little Crake, Water Pipit, Bluethroat and Moustached Warbler.
Winter: Great Bittern, Great White Egret and Water Pipit.
